How do you assess?

By evaluating your child’s progress, we are testing our own abilities
A student’s performance in tests is a reflection of our own capability as a school. By assessing a student’s application to his/her work on a day-to-day basis, we periodically keep a check on how our methods are faring and necessitate improvements or changes immediately.

Other modes of assessments help us determine the capabilities of every child, so that we can personalize our teaching to better suit their needs. A student’s power of comprehension and assimilation is then assessed through appraisals, class tests, semester examinations and project work. A student’s progress in academic and other allied activities is also assessed and progress reports are sent to the parents periodically. Parents are requested to sign the report after going through it carefully.

No tests or examinations are conducted from Kindergarten to Grade II. At these levels, assessments are an ongoing part of everyday activity. However students are assessed on the basis of their worksheets/ appraisals carried out in class, based on the themes followed.

Portfolios containing worksheets with specific learning objectives are maintained for every student, and will be available with the class teacher for the parent to follow the child’s progress. Students in Grade III upward will have weekly tests and semester exams. After each semester exam, the performance of the student is analyzed and remedial classes are provided to those who require them.

How are your teachers selected?

Our teachers are chosen from educational institutions in India and abroad. Teachers undergo regular and rigorous training in pedagogical methodology, pastoral care and their specific subject areas. Ongoing training in both personal and professional areas ensures that faculty is motivated and up-to-date with the curriculum for the next academic year.

The procedure for selection to faculty is as follows:

  • Submission of a resume with a covering letter explaining how the candidate can contribute to PSRTN? core purpose.
  • 3 rounds of interviews: with the Head of the Department, Section Head – Level Coordinator and Head of the Institute.

Awards are given for excellence in different areas, as we believe that positive reinforcement of good behaviour can build self-esteem and strong values.

We believe in developing students from guided to self-discipline as they move from primarily to secondary levels.

How does the school address teenage and other student issues?

Social and emotional conflicts are a part of growing up and we expect that every student will, at some time or the other, grapple with peer issues, home related problems, academic performance, issues related to self-awareness etc. Issues and problems, if not dealt with, will directly impact a student’s performance, relationships and the ability to learn.

PSRTN is sensitive to teenage and student issues. While there is a full time Counsellor, teachers are also trained in basic counselling skills to be able to identify changes in manifested behaviour and offer support.

The whole school community encourages sensitivity towards others and celebrates diversity of interests. We also organize workshops on the above topics, to learn and share among peers and from experts.

For example, below grade level readers in Grade 1 are given extra attention to ensure that they are able to read fluently.

In primary school, a system of continuous assessment is followed with class assignments, projects, regular homework and scheduled unit reviews which form the basis for assessment. In middle school, in addition to the above, there are term exams twice a year in all the subjects.
